Start Smart - Start Smart When is a child old enough to play sports? In this sport crazed world, that is a question with many answers. Start Smart is a proven instructional program that prepares children for the world of organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Parents/guardians work together with your own children in a supportive environment to learn all the basic skills. Start Smart was developed by top motor development specialists in the field of youth sports. Parents and child groups perform motor skill tasks that gradually build confidence while having FUN at the same time. Family Day Camp at AJ Stables - Family Day Camp at AJ Stables A.J. Stables has beautiful acres of pastures and trails. Programs have been created for you and your child to enjoy a bit of the country in the city. Spend a fun-filled day on the farm with our Family One-Day Riding Program! Designed for children and special adults in their lives, this hands-on experience invites mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and more to share in the excitement of learning about horses together. Families will enjoy guided riding instruction, grooming, brushing, and basic horse care while spending quality time outdoors. More than one adult may attend per child, and all participants will take part in age-appropriate activities led by experienced instructors. The fee is per person. Come make lasting memories while experiencing the joy of horses as a family! All riding lessons are conducted by a MA Licensed Riding Instructor. All programs take place at A. J. Stables at 1040 East Mountain Road. Spring Weekend Horseback Riding - Spring Horseback Riding Session B A.J. Stables located 1040 East Mountain Road in Westfield, has acres of beautiful pasture and trails. Programs have been created for your child to enjoy a bit of the country in the city. Spend a day on the farm experiencing how to care for and ride a horse. Each day you child will receive a riding lesson and learn about feeding, grooming, and maintenance associated with horses. Participants will experience brushing, tacking, cleaning, walking etc. All lessons are conducted by a Massachusetts Licensed Riding Instructor. All programs take place at A. J. Stables. You must register your child(ren) through the parks and recreation office using a program registration form. When dropping off children please drive to the back of the property. PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY. Youth Cross Country - Youth Cross Country Youth, grades 5-8, will establish the basics of running and learn to run up to 3 miles. Also include an introduction into the sport of cross country, stretching and skills. The program will aim to improve physical fitness at an individual level for each participant. We will meet in the grass area, next to the children’s pavilion, which is located to the right of the playscape area. Running sneakers are required and bring a drink. Boys T-Ball - Boys T-ball Session B T-Ball is an instructional baseball program for boys 4-5 years of age. A batting tee is used instead of a pitcher and designed to accommodate each child according to their skill level. Participants must provide their own glove. A foam ball will be used. Teams will be formed prior to the first session. If your child needs to be placed with a certain individual for car pooling please place individuals name on your registration form indicating such. Start Smart - Start Smart When is a child old enough to play sports? In this sport crazed world, that is a question with many answers. Start Smart is a proven instructional program that prepares children for the world of organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Parents/guardians work together with your own children in a supportive environment to learn all the basic skills. Start Smart was developed by top motor development specialists in the field of youth sports. Parents and child groups perform motor skill tasks that gradually build confidence while having FUN at the same time. Different aspects of throwing, catching and hitting different size balls will be introduced along with golf. Games will be played in kickball and t-ball. Fee includes all equipment. Spring Weekend Horseback Riding - Spring Horseback Riding Session C A.J. Stables located 1040 East Mountain Road in Westfield, has acres of beautiful pasture and trails. Programs have been created for your child to enjoy a bit of the country in the city. Spend a day on the farm experiencing how to care for and ride a horse. Each day you child will receive a riding lesson and learn about feeding, grooming, and maintenance associated with horses. Participants will experience brushing, tacking, cleaning, walking etc. All lessons are conducted by a Massachusetts Licensed Riding Instructor. All programs take place at A. J. Stables. You must register your child(ren) through the parks and recreation office using a program registration form. When dropping off children please drive to the back of the property. PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY. Program GuidelinesNo sandals or open toed shoes Provide backpack for personal itemsWear long pants for riding horses Bring rain coat on rainy days No canvass sneakers Program held rain or shineBring snack/drinks-will set aside time Apply sunscreen/bug spray before arriving Participants will get dirty so please wear appropriate clothing. 26th Annual Big Wheel 500 - 26th Annual Big Wheel 500 Drivers ages 3-6, rev up your engines for the annual Big Wheel 500. Each driver must bring their own vehicle (Big Wheel) and helmet. Big Wheel must have plastic tires, no rubber tires please. Be prepared for a grueling race around the parking lot at Westfield High School. All participants must arrive by 11:45 pm to register. Register early at the parks and recreation office. Division races begin promptly at 12:00pm. Divisions will be determined by the number of participants enrolled.
